First of all, thank you so much for your amazing reactions to my last post—your Facebook comments, tweets, emails and messages meant the world to me, especially since I was nervous to push publish on that one. Feeling really grateful and supported right now, and I love all of you for that.
What are you up to this weekend? I did a big shop at the farmers market yesterday, and we cleaned our house from top to bottom, which always feels good. Also, we’re celebrating our second wedding anniversary (!!), which is Tuesday. I hope you’ve had a wonderful few days, and if you’re in the mood for some reading, here are 14 really good (if I do say so myself) links for your perusal.
“Don’t shove me into your pigeonhole, where I don’t fit, because I’m all over. My tentacles are coming out of the pigeonhole in all directions.” Love this tribute to Ursula K. Le Guin.
The young women who came forward about Larry Nassar and his years of abuse are so brave.
Jia Tolentino on the rising pressure of the #MeToo backlash. (I love everything she writes.)
How to be protective of your time.
Bravo, Jessica Chastain. #StrongerTogether
“Round after round, you walk into the punch.” Holly’s story of her breast cancer diagnosis and treatment is so moving, and man, did I miss her writing.
This is so inspiring. Even if you’re not looking to overhaul your diet or lose 70 lbs. like Maggie did, it’s a great reminder to be kind to yourself and listen to your body and what it needs.
A beautiful essay on anxiety, grief and finding your way.
I wrote a piece about the Sarasota Lady Arm Wrestlers because they are awesome.
I’M NOT CRYING, YOU’RE CRYING.
On a lighter note, do you read the website Ask a Manager? It’s so good—smart, helpful and often hilarious.
The comments on this post are really, really good and insightful.
I’m caving to the hype and am dying to make Alison Roman’s chocolate chunk shortbread cookies.
Also, have been starting my mornings with a version of this green smoothie (I swap the mango for banana), and it’s so good and filling. Highly recommend.
Have a wonderful weekend, everyone.
